FSC is a non-profit organization that sets standards to promote responsible forest management globally. If a product is labeled as “FSC Certified,” it indicates that the product has been made using responsibly sourced materials and meets the FSC’s certification standards.
Considering the choice between FSC-certified and non-certified products:
Forests cover 30% of the global land area. Large forests in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil are depleting rapidly due to the increasing demand from producers and global consumption.
On the other hand, deforestation, both legal and illegal, is causing the rapid disappearance of biologically diverse natural forests in South America, Asia, and Africa within a decade.
This is why experts advise consumers to seek and consume products with the FSC logo, which signifies products made from materials harvested in an ecologically sustainable manner.
Types of FSC labels and how to recognize them:
Although the FSC certification process may be complex, identifying FSC-certified products is not difficult. The FSC system has three types of labels:
- FSC 100%: Products made from materials with 100% FSC certification.
- FSC Recycled: Products made from recycled materials.
- FSC Mix: Products made from a mix of FSC-certified materials, recycled materials, or controlled materials.
